About Allan

45 years working in the transport industry and Allan Folpp still has a passion for driving heavy vehicles. Allan takes great pleasure sharing his knowledge and skills with the students on their journey to becoming fully qualified heavy vehicle drivers. Not only is Allan very experienced across a broad spectrum of the industry but he has both the qualifications and a strong desire to impart the necessary skills, a professional attitude and a strong work ethic.

Whether Allan is talking to an 18-year-old novice driver or a 60-year-old truck driver looking to brush up his gears, Allan has the ability to communicate with ease. His relaxed and patient style of instructing is regularly commented on by students: ‘it takes the stress out of learning’.

Allan recognises that women are equally capable and talented. He has successfully trained women who have moved into long distance road trains, tipper driving and some who have moved into the mining sector, driving a range of heavy vehicles. He understands that women bring skills and experience that benefit employers and the transport industry.

Allan owns North Coast Heavy Vehicle Driver Training where he has spent 7 years as a professional driving instructor. However, Allan has been training and assessing heavy vehicle drivers within the industry since 1995. He currently assists in the B-double driver training and assessment for Jim Pearson Transport, a company he is privileged to be associated with.

Currently Allan trains and instructs new drivers with:

  • Ballina and Lismore Councils
  • Wiggins Scaffolding
  • Blu Logistic Solutions
  • Chefs Kitchen
  • Ron Southon Blasting and Demolition
  • Essential Energy
  • Jim Pearson Transport
  • National Parks

The ‘fair dinkum’ basics of driving trucks, weights and loading, Allan learnt driving logging trucks in the bush on the Mid North Coast of NSW, subsequently starting his own timber transport business.

From a 1968 White with a 9 speed road ranger coupled up to a 4 speed joey box through to a Kenworth 904, Allan has the experience and understanding to instruct a student to the RMS standard of competency.

For employers, heavy vehicles cost money. Allan’s wider skills in owning, managing, maintenance, loading, scheduling and fatigue management mean that Allan has the employer in mind when he is working with new drivers. Teaching new drivers how to drive cost effectively is a common thread in Allan’s training programs. Allan performed the role of manager at PJ Boyles Transport Pty Ltd and at Kirklands Bus Company.
